City of Hoboken announces events in celebration of Hoboken Puerto Rican Heritage Week
Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, the Hoboken Cultural Affairs Division, and the Hoboken Puerto Rican Cultural Committee (PRCC) today announced the City’s Hoboken Puerto Rican Heritage Week Celebration in honor of the rich cultures and traditions of the Puerto Rican community and its impact on Hoboken.
“Puerto Rican Heritage Week is a time to honor the vibrant culture, rich history, and enduring contributions of our Puerto Rican community here in Hoboken,” said Mayor Bhalla. “This week is an opportunity to come together to enjoy local events that highlight music, dance, and the neighbors who continue to help shape the heart of our city. I thank the PRCC for helping to keep the culture and traditions alive and look forward to celebrating the diversity that makes Hoboken so special.”
The Hoboken PRCC was founded in the mid-1980s with the goal of preserving the Puerto Rican Heritage in Hoboken and beyond through a variety of cultural and civic activities.
“The Puerto Rican Culture Committee is proud to partner with the City of Hoboken to bring vibrant cultural programming to our community,” said Raul Morales II, President of the PRCC. “These initiatives not only celebrate our rich heritage and traditions but also foster ethnic pride and unity. We look forward to sharing the warmth, joy, and resilience of Puerto Rican culture with residents and visitors alike.”
The festivities kick off on Tuesday, June 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the plaza at Seventh and Jackson Streets with renowned music educator Angel LaBoy. Residents and community members are invited to come learn and practice vibrant traditional Puerto Rican dance and music, including Bomba and Plena.
On Thursday, June 5, at 7 p.m., Hoboken community members are invited to Sinatra Park for a live waterfront salsa concert with Kevin Rodriguez and the Salsa All-Stars.
On Saturday, June 7, PRCC will sponsor a ceremony in City Hall council chambers at 11 a.m., followed by a senior lunch in the Multi-Service Center senior room, 124 Grand St. Entertainment will be provided by the salsa band La Experiencia.
