Book Launch for Dr. Duroy

Sunday, November 10, 4pm

Hoboken Historical Museum

The Museum is immensely proud to host a book launch event for Dr. Edwin Duroy! We warmly invite our community to join us for this special event.

🗓️: Sunday, November 10th
🕓: 4pm
📍: Hoboken Historical Museum website

Dr. Edwin Duroy was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and moved to Hoboken as a child. Living there for 52 years, he witnessed the community’s transformation and the tragic fires of the 1970s and 1980s. A retired educator and former Hoboken councilman, Dr. Duroy holds degrees from Jersey City State College, Montclair State, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Dr. Duroy was the first Puerto Rican Superintendent of Schools in New Jersey and fought for school integration policies. He now resides with his wife, Santa, in South Amboy, New Jersey.

In Dr. Duroy’s book, “Befallen,” journalist Delia Delgado grapples with a moral dilemma surrounding a tragic series of fires that swept through Hoboken, NJ, from 1973 to 1983, claiming the lives of 67 residents, including many children. With no one arrested or convicted, the haunting shadow of gentrification looms over these devastating events.

Come join us at the book launch event to obtain your copy of “Befallen” and honor the lives lost, as well as the author’s journey. Books will be available for purchase ($20).
